'The King's Warden' Park Jihoon wins two awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards ... "I will always continue to grow"

Actor Park Jihoon won two trophies at the Baeksang Arts Awards for his role in the film 'The King's Warden.'

On the 8th at 7.50 PM (KST), during the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci held at COEX D Hall in Gangnam, Seoul, Park Jihoon received the Best New Actor Award in the film category.

On stage that day, Park Jihoon said, "I really want to thank Director Jang Hangjun for believing in me until the very end," expressing his gratitude toward the director who persuaded him to take part in the film.

He also added, "It was an honor to share this kind of energy with you in my life. I love you, Yoo Haejin Sunbaenim," sharing his gratitude toward his co-star before also thanking fans for their support.

Park Jihoon also received the Naver Popularity Award at this ceremony. He shared, "I know this is an award I received through the votes from fans. Thank you so much, MAY," and added, "I will always be a person who grows so that I can always show you my best side."

Meanwhile, Park Jihoon received much love for his portrayal of the ill-fated King Danjong in the film 'The King's Warden.' Set in Cheongyeongpo in 1457, 'The King's Warden' tells the story of the young former King Danjong, who was exiled after losing the throne, and the people of Gwangcheongol who welcomed him. Park Jihoon starred alongside Yoo Haejin. The film, currently the second highest-grossing movie in Korean box office history, has accumulated 16,816,580 viewers as of the 8th.

'The King's Warden' earns 151.8 billion KRW ... No. 1 highest-grossing film of all time

The film 'The King's Warden' (directed by Jang Hangjun) has become the highest-grossing film in South Korean box office history, earning 151.8 billion KRW.

According to the Korean Film Council on the 29th, 'The King's Warden' topped the box office for the first quarter of 2026, recording 151.8 billion KRW in revenue with 15.73 million viewers. Notably, it surpassed 'Extreme Job' to become the highest-grossing film of all time in terms of revenue.

The film's success also boosted the overall theater industry in the first quarter of this year, with 318 billion KRW in total theater revenue and 31.9 million viewers. This is the highest first-quarter figures since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. Given that the film alone surpassed 15 million viewers, it is seen as a major factor behind the year-over-year increase of 58.7% in revenue (117.7 billion KRW) and 53.2% in admissions (11.08 million viewers).

Additionally, the first-quarter revenue for Korean films in 2026 reached 233.3 billion KRW with 24.01 million viewers. This is an increase of 117.5% in revenue (126.1 billion KRW) and 115.1% in admissions (12.85 million people) compared to the first quarter of 2025. Compared to the pre-pandemic averages (2017-2019), Korean film revenue has recovered to 94.5% and admissions to 79.7% of previous averages.

In terms of distributor rankings, Showbox, which distributed three films including 'The King's Warden' and 'Once We Were Us,' ranked No.1 in the first quarter of 2026 with 173.6 billion KRW in revenue (55.4% market share). Second place went to Walt Disney Company Korea, which distributed five films including 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' and 'Zootopia 2,' recording 43.1 billion KRW in revenue (13.6% market share).

Released on February 4, 'The King's Warden' tells the story of young King Danjong (played by Park Jihoon), who was exiled to Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol after losing his throne to his uncle Grand Prince Suyang in 1457, and Eom Heungdo (played by Yoo Haejin), the village head assigned to watch over him. The film surpassed 1 million viewers in just 5 days, surpassed its break-even point of 2.6 million in 14 days, and reached 10 million viewers on March 6.

Park Jihoon shares a touching story as his movie 'The King's Warden' passes 6 million viewers.

On the 23rd, the official account of You Quiz on the Block posted a preview clip titled, "From ‘New-Gen Danjong(?)’ Park Jihoon’s behind-the-scenes stories with Yoo Haejin to his impression of Director Jang Hangjun!"

In the video, Park Jihoon showed off his witty charm while talking about how people reacted to the movie's success. Mentioning Director Jang Hangjun’s excitement, he joked, "The director is excited every day. He’s just one step away from becoming a master." He added, "In my heart, he’s already a master," before mimicking the director's voice, saying, "Jihoon-ah, don't act rashly. Don't get too excited and stay calm," which made everyone on set laugh.

He also shared behind-the-scenes stories with co-star Yoo Haejin. When Yoo Jaesuk asked, "I heard Haejin really adores you," Park Jihoon replied, "I think he liked me because I wasn't fake. Even when he said, 'Let’s grab a meal after filming,' I would be honest and say, 'Maybe not today…'" drawing warm reactions.

Park Jihoon then revealed, "I filmed this movie while thinking of my grandmother." He confessed, "She passed away the day after the premiere." He recalled, "My grandmother had dementia, so she couldn't remember me. I wish I could ask her. If she could at least appear in my dreams…"

Meanwhile, on the same day, the distributor Showbox announced that 'The King's Warden' has surpassed 6 million viewers.

Set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457, 'The King's Warden' tells the story of a village chief who chooses his own place of exile for his town's success, and a young former king who was kicked off the throne and sent into exile. Currently a huge hit, the film reached the 6 million mark faster than historical hits like 'The King and the Clown' and 'The Throne.'

Park Jihoon’s sincere confession will air on the 25th at 8.45 PM (KST).
