RESCENE's Minami is officially closing the chapter of her viral 'Gyaru' character. and will begin communicating with fans using her true self.
According to reports from Korean media outlets TV Report and Newsis, Minami connected with fans through a fan communication platform on the 21st to share her thoughts.
"I'm so grateful for all the love we received, especially with our content videos surpassing 1 million views. I think it's about time to slowly say goodbye to the Gyaru character. Since I'm not actually a Gyaru, I'm goin to show a lot of my real self from now on."
Minami added, "To be honest, I don't even know exactly what a Gyaru is. There are so many different styles of it. I thought some people might feel uncomfortable seeing someone imitate it," and continued:
"The Gyaru image I've shown so far was something I carefully researched and prepared for those who enjoying the videos. Rather than seeing it as contents meant to promote Gyaru culture, I hope people view it as content showcasing different sides of me and the great chemistry I have with Woni Unnie."
Lastly, Minami said, "Still, so many people seemed to enjoy the Gyaru character, so I'm glad I did it. I'm also grateful to the PD-nim. I'll work harder on my singing and dancing so that people can come to like the real me as well."
Previously, Minami drew significant public attention through content on fellow member Woni's personal channel, when she appeared with a unique Gyaru makeup and an eccentric alter-ego character. Videos such as their trip to Geoje Island became popular online memes and contributed to a rise in recognition for RESCENE as well as resurgence in the group's performance on music charts.
On the other hand, a scene in a video posted on the 19th to the channel 'Hello I Am Woni Nice To Meet You' sparked concern among fans when a man was captured intentionally trying to bump into Minami and Woni as they walked through the streets of Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan. Fortunately, Minami reacted quickly, preventing any physical contact. However, the footage sparked outrage online, with some speculating that it may have been an attempted case of the so-called 'Butsukari,' a form of intentional collision targeting women or children in Japan.
Following the conclusion of her 'Gyaru' character, RESCENE is set to make a comeback on July 8 with 'Pretty Girl,' a remake of hit song by KARA.
