Forced to weigh 42kg at 170cm ... Former idol Doi confesses to her hell-like trainee days

A former member of a girl group has gained attention after speaking out about the brutal realities she faced as an idol trainee in Korea.

On the 17th, Doi, formerly a member of FANATICS who is now active as a Youtuber, opened up about the experiences she went through during her trainee days through a video.

Yoon Doi shared that she spent around nine to ten years training under four to five different agencies. She confessed, "At the time, I was told by the company, 'You are not human beings, you are products,'" adding, "I was deeply hurt by those remarks. It suggested that all that mattered was whether we sold well."

She shared that she endured extreme competition and pressure during her trainee years. In particular, she mentioned about the 'monthly evaluations,' saying, "It was a place where dozens of staff members would watch and point out your flaws," adding, "Every single day felt like hell."

She also revealed her weight was managed at an extreme level. She shocked viewers by revealing that she was ordered by the company to drop her weight to 42kg despite standing at 170cm tall. She was even pressured to lose weight to under 40kg right before her debut

Yoon Doi confessed, "At the time, I endured by making myself throw up or by spitting out food isntead of swallowing it. I even deliberately ate spoiled food and ended up being rushed to the hospital," adding, "My health completely ruined after my weight fell to 38kg."

Furthermore, she alleged that trainees experienced not only verbal abuse but physical punishment as well. She added, "Even when I was struggling, I wasn’t allowed to cry. After debuting, I also had to hide my emotions because of my image."

Currently active mainly in Taiwan, Yoon Doi's video has since been covered by numerous Taiwanese media outlests. The video leads criticism over structural issues within the Korean idol industry and calls for improvements to the trainee system to emerge.

Meanwhile, FANATICS was an eight-member multinational girl group under FENT that debuted on August 6, 2019. Due to setbacks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the group effectively disbanded around October 2022

The person who gave the girls jacket to cover up themselves is not a staff but a member of the group

And the man is not a staff, but their CEO. The girls call him CEO, he was the cameramen.

They started a broadcast where they did a lottery drawing for the fans, which later would receive drawings personally drawn by the members.

When the live broadcast started

The drawing they plan to give out to the fans

The ltotery

And as you can see in this scene, there were only three members.
The other member seemed to not be participating in this live broadcast because she was wearing training suits and slippers.

Do Ah

Another member (I don't know her name)

Yoon Hye (The member who gave the jacket/blanket)

The CEO (and also the cameramen)

The first lottery where they drew out 2 of the 7 drawings
And then the angle of the camera started to change

Yoon Hye handed blankets for the two girls on the left and handed her own jacket for the two girls on the right

Yoon Hye (Member)

The CEO said, 'The point was to show their legs, are you stupid?' and then there was a slapping sound
The member who handed the jacket talked to the members in the frame and the CEO took the jacket (There were step sounds)

There's no clear information whether if the CEO really slapped the girl or not, since there was only sound and it's not filmed by the camera. However, I'm writing this post because there's a possibility of violence.

I just knew this group called Fanatics today.
I'm sorry for the half-assed screen captures, please only focus on the context

-What in the world is he doing to the girls...

-If you listen closely, you can hear someone saying 'Ah! I got slapped' as she was in pain, at around 14:45...?

-Hul... This is the group where Produce48 Do Ah is in...;;;

-Hul, so the person who covered the girls up was actually one of the members...?? How could a CEO be doing this kind of bullshit? This is crazyㅠㅠㅠ

-Is he a pervert??

-There's surely a lot of trashy entertainment companies out there...ㅠㅠ

-Whoa, this is very terrifying... These girls should leave the company as soon as possible. And this should become a bigger issue...

-It'd be a waste of energy for me to talk about how trashy this is, f*ck... The girls seem to be hard-working, though. I feel bad for them.

-The CEO was the one who controlled the camera and he slowly lowered the angle... There's no explanation or excuses, he needs to step down from his position as soon as possible...

-If he dares to treat the girls like that in front of the camera, I can't even imagine how he treats them in daily life... It's obvious...

-It sounds like the slapping was done on skin, and there's no way he slapped the girls' arms because they were all wearing long sleeves... I feel bad for the girls...

-That's very trashy of him for purposely lowering the angle to show the girls' legs...
